Hotel La Jolla –

A contemporary boutique hideaway with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean –– from upper-level room balconies and the 11th-floor CUSP restaurant: Hotel La Jolla is superbly true to its location in one of the premium cities on the West Coast.

The Hotel La Jolla is a young-vibe gateway to La Jolla and the recreational, relaxational opportunities of the La Jolla Shores beach, offering 110 quality rooms at just under 400 square feet. Guests select a deluxe king and queen room or one of four upscale 900-square foot apartment-style luxury suites.

Wi-Fi is provided in the rooms and throughout the hotel, and the Mind.Body.Spa in-room spa program allows guests to enjoy these services in their rooms. Yoga mats are also complimentary for guests, together with access to the Yoga Channel.

“Each of our hotel rooms comes with either a patio or balcony, and most have breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, complete with daily sunsets,” says Erin E. Lovely, director of sales and marketing for the hotel, operated by San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants.

Conveniently minutes to Interstate 5 and just five walking blocks from the Pacific, Hotel La Jolla is also close to the shopping, dining, museums and entertainment of La Jolla Shores and La Jolla Village.

Nearby, too, are the University of California San Diego’s main campus, Torrey Pines State Reserve and its public golf course, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Stephen Birch Aquarium, the Glider Port and many other destinations.

The hotel offers complimentary car service within a five- mile radius for those who would like to enjoy La Jolla’s many restaurants and boutiques as well as the ocean.

“Our hotel staff is known for its high level of service, for making our guests feel special, customizing unique and personalized amenities for special occasions as well as for repeat guests,” Lovely says.

At La Jolla Shores beach, guests can rent kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling equipment, and a mile away is Children’s Pool, where the sea lions sun bathe and swim in the ocean. The hotel lends its overnight guests a Beach Butler Bag, including a beach mat, towels and beach chairs. Beach cruisers are also provided to guests.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy a glass of wine or a craft cocktail around the heated pool and fire pits in the outdoor lounge, Hiatus. In the lobby, complimentary coffee and tea is served daily, 6–9 a.m., the hosted wine hour is daily, 5–6 p.m., and the fitness center is open 24 hours. The hotel also welcomes pets.

Executive Chef Donald Lockhart continues his stand-out culinary work at CUSP, open Monday through Friday for breakfast; brunch, Saturday and Sunday; and dinner every day. The daily happy hour, 4–7 p.m., offers spirits and food specials such as daily flatbreads.

Chef has crafted a unique menu that reflects a Coastal Mediterranean Cuisine, showcasing homemade pastas and seafood dishes including a guest favorite, Pan Seared Sea Bass over Saffron Risotto, shrimp, mussels, Spanish chorizo and piquillo peppers. His Red Wine Braise Beef Cheeks with roasted root vegetables is also a popular dish.

“I have been around food all of my life,” says chef, a La Jolla resident who brings to the fine young restaurant a résumé including work with the immortal Julia Child at the James Beard House in New York and as executive sous chef in Cairo, Egypt. He previously worked in Hollywood as executive sous chef at Delphine.

“We try to keep things simple and flavorful, while offering a contemporary touch in a warm and inviting space where you can sip, savor and soak in some of the best views La Jolla has to offer.”
